The Cask of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado is about a man named Montresor. He seeks revenge of a man named Fortunato. Fortunato is a man who specializes in Wines. Morelike a wine critic. Montresor seeks revenge of Fortunato because Fortunato haad wronged him numerous times. One evening, Montresor takes a walk and it was the time of a festival. So there are many people in the streets celebrating. Along the way, Montresor meets Fortunato. Fortunato is very drunk and Montresor tells him that he has bought gallons of wine. He also tells him that he's unsure if the wine is of good quality, and he was just on his way to Luchresi, another wine critic. At that point, Fortunato tells Montresor that he'll see if the wine is of good quality and thhat Luchresi is a no good wine critic. montresor numerously asks if Fortunato is okay, because he seemed sick and asked if he wanted to go back while walking deeper and deeper into Montressor's vault. Fortunato claimed that he is in good health and that they should proceed to "The Amontillado!" Montresor offers him wine and Fortunato driks it; he asks for more a while later and drinks the whole bottle. At that point, Fortunato is very drunk! They reach the very end of the vault, and on the sides are bones and corpses of the Montresor family. Montresor chains Fortunato to the wall and starts to enclose the space. Fortunato yells to Montresor that he gets the joke and that he wants to go taste the wine, and go home. Montresor replies, "Yes, the Amontillado!" Montresor hears no reply and yells for Fortunato. He only heard the ring of the bells on Fortunato's hat. So the dampness of the vault had finn=ally taken Fortunato. Montresor closes the hole. Now, for about fifty years, Fortunato still rests in peace inside the vault. One line that represents the story would be, "I broke and reached hima flagon of De Grave. He emptied it at a breath. His eyes flashed with a fierce light..." (page 21). This line represents the story, because you can tell that Montresor is sneaky about his plan, offering more wine so that Fortunato doesn't notice what's going on.
Emotiaonally, I think that the main character/ nararrator, Montresor is insane. Why? All because a man named Fortunato had wronged him, he seeks revenge. Usually, when someone had wronged you, would you seek such a brutal revenge like Montresor? No one would think of such brutal revenge! I guess pulling pranks on the person would be okay, just as if its harmless. No one deserves a kelling as a revenge! Not anyone! It's just wrong and gross. So, apparently, Montressor has someking of disease that makes him act the way he does of he's just plain psycho! "... The noise lasted for several minutes, during which, that I might hearken to it with the more satisfaction..." (page 23). Montresor seems very atease with the horrific screams of Fortunato. He continues his work and finishes what he'd started. What's weird is that Montresor actually feels sorry for what he's doing, but clearly, that doesn't let it get to him. He just simply continues on with the work. Anger definately motivates Montresor to do what he had done. He was obviously very angry, and he'd bottled up his anger. His anger for Fortunato's wrong doings had led to murder. I can understand that a person would get angry for being wronged numerous times, but murder is not the answer to resolving the problem! I personally think that Montresor took his anger to a whole new level. He was soo sneaky about his plan too. It wasn't fair for Fortunato either. He had already been drunk from celebrating and he was offered more wine! montresor took great advantage of Fortunato.
If I were to be in charge of a studio and have been given the task of adapting this short story into a film, I'm not exactly sure if I'd change anything. The story seems fine just the way Edgar Allan Poe had written it. Except for the last part. It says that no one has opened the vault where Fortunato rests in peace for over fifty years. I think I'd add more to it. For example, I'd probably add a scene to the ending where it shows Montresor as an old man living his last few years of his life to the fullest. Going to extravagant parties and such, enjoying himself. I think that adding that scene would show the audience that Montresor is a crazy maniac! After all these years since the murder of Fortunato, he'd live his life with no shame! It would leave the audience in disgust! The audience should be disgusted after seeing that Montresor is a lunatic. I won't leave out anything because, if I do leave anything out, the story would fall apart. Also, because most of the story is in conversation and by leaving anything out, something wouldn't make sense. I would pick all of the characters from the book to be in the film. Why? Well, because they each have their own unique parts. The characters being Montresor and Fortunato. Maybe some drunken people in the background at the beginning. Some of Montresor's servants in the middle, where Montresor asks them to leave because he has some buisness to take care of, and lastly lots of people attending the parties Montresor goes to. So the main character's are just Montresor and Fortunato.

Today in History...
In World History... we learned about the French Revolution. The Background of the French Revolution:
A) There were estates (classes of people)
1. Clergy - They do not pay taxes
2. Nobility - They don't pay taxes but they do hold a high place in government
3. Commoners - They pay taxes and majority of the population are commoners
B) The economy
1. There were frequent problems
2. Ther poor during this time were very poor
3. The government spends too much money with wars
4. The Queen spends a lot of money on herself
Trying to fix the problem during the French Revolution
A) The estates general
1. There was an unfair way of voting to fix the government
2. The 3rd estate creates the constitution
3. The 3rd estate wants to be the mojority
4. Louis XVI tries to stop the constitution
5. People all over France revolts
B) The Declaration of the rights of man & citizen is written
C) King Louis XVI gives in
D) There is a new constitution for France
E) King Louis XVI is beheaded so he is powerless
That is what I learned about in my world history class :)
Today in Math...

So.. today in math we learned more TRIG. We're now learning Chapter 7 Section 5, Multiple-Angle and Product-to-Sum Formulas. We Use the unit circle above to find all the solutions. There are like a million formulas to memorize!! The test is next week!!
Solving a multiple-angle equation
*Note* :
(pie) is a replacement for the symbol pie
Double Angle Formulas:
sin 2u= 2 sin u cos u
tan 2u= (2 tanu)/(1- tan2u)
cos 2u= cos2u - sin2u
= 2 cos2u - 1
= 1- 2sin2u
Solve: 2 cos x + sin 2x = 0
2 cos x + sin 2x = 0 Write the original equation
2 cos x + 2 sinx cosx = 0 Substitute into the double- angle formula
2 cos x (1 + sin x) = 0 factor out 2 cos x
2 cos x = 0 and 1 + sin x = 0 set the factors equal to zero
x = (pie)/2, 3(pie)/2 x = 3(pie)/2 The solutions in [0,2(pie))
The general solution is...
x = (pie)/2 + 2n(pie) and x = 3(pie)/2 + 2n(pie)
where n is an integer.

Tyler Perry's House of Payne
For Mr. Lacombe's freewrite, I decided to write about one of my favorite television show. It's called Tyler Perry's House of Payne. This family is one of the most hilarious people you'd ever imagine to meet. I bet life would be soo much interesting if there really were a family just like the Payne's. They seem like somewhat of a disfunctional family, but everything they do and say is just over the top. Curtis who is Mr. Payne just gives his best to irritate his family. Ella who is Mrs. Payne keeps her husband Curtis in check all the time. It's hilarious seeing these two bicker all the time about the most ridiculous things in the world! Calvin is Curtis and Ella's son acts gullible. C.J. is Curtis and Ella's nephew; his house burnt down so he now lives with Curtis and Ella with his wife and kids. Most recently, his wife had twins.Thursday, February 19, 2009
The Movie: Taken
I saw this movie about two weeks ago, and I think it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. I believe that every girl should watch this movie. It will definately teach you a life lesson and I'll assure you that you will think twice before you lie. It's about a guy, whose daughter gets kidnapped and he does everything in his power to get her back... I don't want to write every detail of the movie because I want you guys to watch it!! For guys... don't worry! You all can watch it too! It's definately not a chick-flick movie. It's action packed all the way. The moral of this movie will have you thinking and will have you view certain things in different perspectives... Liam Neeson, who is the actor who plays the main character is just awesome! Now, I think he is one of the best actors of all time. All the action in the movie gives you an adrenaline rush because everything is unexpected! So...Wednesday, February 11, 2009
A Walk To Remember

This book is one of my favorite books! The author who wrote it, Nicholas Sparks is one of the best authors in the world! I think that everyone should read this book. Even though there is a movie of this book, the book is soo much more better! It's important to read this book because it makes you rethink about how you live life.
Here is the synopsis of "A Walk to Remember":
There was a time when the world was sweeter...when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats...when something happened to a seventeen-year-old boy that would change his life forever. Every April, when the wind blows in from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood. No other author today touches our emotions more deeply than Nicholas Sparks. Illuminating both the strength and the gossamer fragility of our deepest emotions, his two New York Times bestsellers, The Notebook and Message in a Bottle, have established him as the leading author of today's most cherished love stories. Now, in A Walk to Remember, he tells a truly unforgettable story, one that glimmers with all of his magic, holding us spellbound-and reminding us that in life each of us may find one great love, the kind that changes everything...
